Remember the story I shared about Hachi the Dog? Well, against all odds — I FELL IN LOVE! I set the scene very carefully to act like Sunder was going to insist on him staying, mentioned a time or two that three dogs would be way too much. Then the call came. His owner tracked us down using the phone numbers that we carefully offered to all local agencies.
We had just ten minutes to say goodbye before the young woman arrived. Needless to say, there are no photos of Hachi’s departure. I’d like to say that I handled it well, but she made it as far as the door before I burst into tears. As usual, my man lent us all the strength that the reunion required. Part of doing the right thing is doing it no matter the hurt, right? Please tell me right!!!
One consolation was Hachi’s reaction to her. He ran, danced, winced, even turned around a time or two. Hachi — I mean Cody — you are a gift.
Well, that was one lucky dog. If I needed to be rescued I would want it to be at your house. How many people do you know that would immediately take the dog to be checked out and to Bed and Biscuits to be dried off and warmed up. You are such a softy!! Love you, Heidi!
