Two decades go by with the snap of the fingers — too many moments to recount, to share. Nevertheless, when my elementary school friend Karen Hershey found me on Facebook, it was just like I said — a snap of the fingers. Same smiling eyes, optimistic spirit. You know the one — a glass half full kind of gal. That’s how I remember her. In true Heidi spirit, I asked Karen how she remembered me. I wasn’t prepared for the tears, y’all. Her response was very simple: Because of you, I felt accepted.
Sniff sniff. Where’s the Kleenex? And so begins my reunion with Karen. The tears don’t end there. I had a few more after Karen’s engagement session. She has found in Bryant a partner, a willing co-parent for her teenage children, and a soulmate. Their story began just like Karen’s and mine — decades earlier — only theirs with a date on the Monterey Bay Academy campus. Karen was often occupied with her horse and riding, studies and work. Bryant was (and still is!) the life of the party. They had a date, then parted ways with a story less dramatic than their reunion.
Relationships and years went by. Karen and Bryant checked in on each other intermittently, respectively supporting each other only through friendship. Until…
Until the world brought them together. And here they are — states away from our California roots — living in Colorado in their newly-purchased home.
Join me as I honor this smiley twosome. It was contagious, I tell you! Bryant, you are a prankster! Until…
Until your eyes meet hers…
